The customs and trade specialist

Open

Knows Incoterms, origin and importer-of-record liability from practice. Tests whether Moduloa's landed-cost delivery terms work across borders, and what delivering straight to a customer's own customers would take.

An open invitation, not a vacancy: several people can take it at once, and it carries no number until you commit to something specific. This page says what Moduloa hopes for and where a first contribution could start.

Why it matters

Why Moduloa needs this

The economics page quotes the standard example DAP to a named address, offers FCA at the hub for collection and allows DDP only by agreement, because Norway sits outside the EU customs union and delivering duty paid needs a representative who shares liability for the duty. The same page prints an open question: under UCC Article 70(2), part of the capacity subscription could count toward the units' customs value, and settling it needs a customs broker or a binding ruling. With no margin on the unit, a duty or VAT error cannot be absorbed quietly, so the terms have to be right before the first quote.

What we hope for

What you would bring

  • Customs practice in Norway and the EU: declarant and representative roles, direct and indirect representation, guarantees.
  • HS classification of mechatronic goods and their parts, and customs valuation, including which payments count toward value.
  • Origin rules and proof of origin for duty-free entry under trade agreements, not just the country on the label.
  • Incoterms 2020 written into contracts, with the VAT consequence of each term.
  • Importer-of-record or DDP set-ups in more than one country, ideally including deliveries to consumers.
On the task board

Tasks that suit you

Each has a plain test for done. Ask to commit to one: name what you will deliver and a date no more than three months after it is accepted. Several people can work on the same task, each with its own deliverable.

Or your own

Other first deliverables

Each is specific enough that by its date anyone can tell whether it was delivered. Some are a task above in a smaller form. Name one, or a better one.

  1. A written view on the open Article 70(2) question: whether part of the subscription would count toward customs value, and the cheapest way to settle it before a first quote.
  2. A line-by-line review of the delivery-terms section for one lane, such as Norway to Germany: who declares, who pays duty and import VAT, what each step costs to arrange, and what the page gets wrong.
  3. A map of what delivering to a customer's own customers would require in two or three markets: entity, representative, guarantee, and who the receiver sees as importer.
The terms

What this is, and is not

What this is not

Not a brokerage mandate or a freight contract: nothing ships yet, and acting later as a customs representative would be agreed separately, on its own terms. On its own a seat carries no pay, no equity and no supplier position.

What you get

When your commitment is accepted, it shows on the task and on your seat card, and a first commitment takes the next permanent number on the register, with your name, a link and your date. When the work is delivered in the open you are aboard and a certificate is issued. Nothing is paid for a seat and none is for sale: on its own a seat carries no equity and no supplier position, and any paid work is agreed separately, on its own terms. The entry stays either way: a commitment not delivered by its date is marked lapsed and dated, never removed.

How to start

Pick a task that suits you and ask to commit to it, or name your own first deliverable: what you will deliver and a date no more than three months after it is accepted. Write to shk@moduloa.com, or use the link on any task, which opens the contact page with the subject filled in. It does not have to be large. It has to be specific enough that anyone can tell by its date whether it was delivered.
